Lunar Look at the Coming Week from the Celestial Planting Calendar Team
Monday, Tuesday, July 6-7, 2020
All day Monday the waning Moon is in Capricorn (root) with ascending forces and the air quality is earthy and cool. This is the best sign for weeding, weeding, weeding. It is also favorable for planning a garden path, setting fence posts, planting winter vegetables, starting a compost pile, clearing forest edges and hedges, thinning out plants, including perennials, combating in-ground pests and preserving and storing root vegetables even making sauerkraut. Now that we are in a waning Moon, it is a good time to place the dried herbs into jars. It is a good time for mulching because the Moon is waning.
Wednesday, Thursday, July 8-9, 2020
Wednesday morning the Moon starts off in Capricorn (see above) until 8 am EDT and it transitions into Aquarius for 3 hours (grey on calendar). Aquarius is an air sign associated with the flower component of the plant. The Moon is waning with ascending forces. The air and day quality is light and airy. Aquarius is not suitable for important work in the garden. Stick with the most necessary tasks such as mulching, weeding, hoeing and harrowing. Leave the weeds to rot and provide mulch along the garden paths. This is a good time to harvest and store vegetables, especially vegetables to be used for drying. This is an unfavorable time for planting and transplanting and for pinching off excessive leaves for example those from tomato plants.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, July 10-12, 2020
On Friday the Moon transitions from Aquarius to Pisces between 10am until noon EDT. The waning Moon in Pisces (leaf) brings with it ascending forces. The air and day quality is wet, damp and cool. Everything harvested on these days should be consumed or used up immediately. The ground will not dry out at this time and will retain any water that it is given. This is a favorable time for growing lettuce and other leafy vegetables. Note, the waning Moon will deter bolting. Water indoor plants as well as those in the greenhouse and the garden. Mowing the lawn at this time will ensure the grass grows back slowly. It is a good time for setting fence posts and mulching. Apply nutrients and compost to flowers. You can make your own compost tea using comfrey and nettle. This is an unfavorable time for preserving and storing vegetables and painting outside.
Monday, July 13, 2020
On Monday the Pisces Moon transitions into Aries from 1pm to 4pm EDT. This waning, Aries (fire/fruit) Moon has ascending forces. The air and day quality is warm and fiery. This is a good time to harvest and store grains including cereal grains. Plant and sow anything that is to be consumed immediately or will be fast growing. It is a good time to plant vegetables such as carrots and beets, preserve and ferment fruits and vegetables. Apply compost or herbal teas to fruiting plants. This is a good time to paint outdoors and set fence posts.
This weekly forecast is based on the experience, knowledge and wisdom first set out by Rudolf Steiner and then elaborated on by Maria Thun. Lorraine Schmid of Thyme Again Gardens has incorporated these teachings on her farm in South Eastern Ontario. She offers these tips for improving plant quality and work-related efficiency in gardens and farms. While these tips relate mostly to northern temperate climates, they have a more universal application.
