Lunar Look at the Coming Week from the Celestial Planting Calendar Team

Monday, April 13, 2020

The Moon is in Sagittarius and begins its ascending cycle.  Sagittarius brings the qualities of dryness and warmth, and relates to the sciatica, hips and thighs.   Avoid heavy lifting today.  It is a good time to plant beets in the greenhouse, and/or prune fruit trees and dealing with above-ground pests, such as aphids and flea beetles.  Avoid heavy weeding that could affect your lower back.

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

As with Monday, the Moon on Tuesday is in Sagittarius, a fruit sign.  Sagittarius is the nodal point between the ascending and descending forces.  What applies for Monday also applies to Tuesday.

Wednesday and Thursday, April 15 & 16, 2020

The Moon moves into Capricorn, which has a quality of earthiness and coolness.  The Moon is waning and Capricorn is a root sign.  Generally the earth feels cooler to touch even on a hot day.  It is most favorable for jobs that require a lot of strength and hard work—weeding, weeding and more weeding.  You may want to create a pathway in the garden or put up fence posts.  It is favorable for planting root vegetables either in the ground or in the greenhouse.  Also, if you have an area of land that you want to clear or reclaim, this is a good time to do it.  Consider tackling the prickly ash or other unwanted shrubs or bushes.  It is also a good time to start a compost pile, or layer it or turn it.  If you have mold in the garden, this is the right time to deal with that.

Call the Ferrier to attend to animals hoofs.  Add compost soil to the houseplants.

Friday and Saturday, April 17 & 18, 2020

The gray area between 7am and 10am is the transition time as the Moon moves into Aquarius.  It stays there until Sunday, April 19 at 10am.  Aquarius is a flower sign with ascending forces.  The quality is light.   There is a feeling of lightness.  It is mostly unsuitable for any farming and gardening except what really needs to be done right away.  Weeding is beneficial at this time.  Be sure to leave the weeds on top of the ground as a mulch.  If you are a person who turns the soil in the garden, now is a good time to do it.  It is a good time to harvest vegetables if you want them to be drying.  It is totally unfavorable for transplanting.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 19 to 22, 2020

The Moon moves into Pisces during the gray area on Sunday from 10am to noon and it stays there until 1pm on Wednesday, April 22nd.  Pisces is a leaf sign and the Moon is waning with ascending forces.  The quality is damp and cool.  The ground does not dry out quickly.  This is a good time to seed and plant your lettuces and other green leafy veggies that may tend to easily bolt.  Everything harvested at this time should be used up right away.  If you harvest over-wintering carrots out of your garden today, use them up right away.  This is good to plant any leafy vegetable as well as water house plants and irrigate the garden.  It is good for cutting the lawn if you want the grass to grow slowly.  It is unfavorable for cutting and pruning fruit trees and preserving and canning fruit.  As the air feels cool and damp outside, avoid outdoor painting.  Also a good time for setting fence posts.

This weekly forecast is based on the experience, knowledge and wisdom first set out by Rudolf Steiner and then elaborated on by Maria Thun.  Lorraine Schmid of Thyme Again Gardens has incorporated these teachings on her farm in South Eastern Ontario.  She offers these tips for improving plant quality and work-related efficiency in gardens and farms.  While these tips relate mostly to northern temperate climates, they have a more universal application.
