Lunar Look at the Coming Week from the Celestial Planting Calendar Team

Monday, April 6, 2020

Moon goes into Virgo at 8am and stays there until Thursday at 10am, with the Full Moon occurring around midnight on Tuesday.  This means that we waxing Virgo on Monday.  In general this brings cooler days and the ground is cold.  It is a good time to re-pot house plants, shrubs, trees and over wintering geraniums.

Waxing Virgo is a good time to sow the lawn with seed and plant or transplant trees and shrubs.  It is a good time to open the soil to expose underground mold.

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

All day is unfavorable to plant or harvest as the Moon is in perigee (closest to Earth) and it is a Full Moon.   Focus on other activities not related to plants such as office work, emails, equipment maintenance.  If you have veggies to harvest in the greenhouse, do it on the preceding day, Monday.  Chicks that are hatched closest to the Full Moon are healthier, and are more immune to parasites and lice.

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

The Moon is waning and still in Virgo.  This is a good time to turn or tend the compost pile or start a new compost pile.  Also, this is a good time to repair fencing as the new posts will stay in longer.

Thursday, April 9, 2020

From 8am the Moon is in the air sign of Libra.  This is a good time to plant flowers in the greenhouse, including flowering herbs such as St. John’s Wort or borage.  As the Moon is waning in an air sign such as Libra, it is a good time to clean out the animal shelters, pens, and cages.  Dust spider webs away.  Spring cleaning for animal care.

Friday April 10 to Sunday April 12, 2020

After 2pm the Moon is waning and in Scorpio and remains until Sunday afternoon.  Excellent day for loosening up hard or tough dirt that requires a lot of muscle.  Good day for digging compost.   If you are house cleaning you will find molds are easier to clean away with water and vinegar.

The quality is damp and cool.  It is a good time to plant any medicinal herbs such as borage, basil, and mint.  Water your house plants.  Also good for planting leafy vegetables such as lettuce, kale and swiss chard as bolting and will be prevent now.  Good for mowing lawns on the waning Scorpio.

Sunday, April 12, 2020

Sunday evening, the Moon crosses the Sun’s path (South Node) and moves into Sagittarius.  This is a gray area and a time for non-plant related work.

Monday, April 13, 2020

Moon is in Sagittarius and begins its ascending cycle.  Sagittarius brings the quality of dryness and warmth, and relates to the sciatica, hips and thighs.   Avoid heavy lifting this day.  It is a good time to plant beets in greenhouse.  A good time for pruning fruit trees and dealing with above ground pests such as aphids and flea beetles, but avoid heavy weeding that could affect the lower back.

This weekly forecast is based on the experience, knowledge and wisdom, first set out by Rudolf Steiner and then elaborated on by Maria Thun.  Lorraine Schmid of Thyme Again Gardens has incorporated these teachings on her farm in South Eastern Ontario.  She offers the following tips for improving plant quality and work-related efficiency in gardens and farms.  While these tips relate mostly to northern temperate climates, they have a more universal application.
